The Reader's Digest list suggested those looking for a change of scenery should try a summer visit to Greenwich instead of the more mainstream travel destination of New York City, getting fewer crowds and lines but still enjoying a memorable time.

Reader's Digest praised Greenwich for being "walkable" with all the charm and convenience of a small town."

The town earned praise for its lively downtown area and multiple beaches, balancing a city feel with New England charm.

One of the elements of city life that Greenwich preserves is diversity, with about a quarter of its residents born outside the US and nearly a third speaking another language in addition to English, according to Reader's Digest.

Visitors can join the diverse population of locals and head to polo matches at Greenwich Polo Club, one of only three venues in the US to offer high-goal polo.

Multiple festivals throughout the year mean there's always a good time to travel to the town, including celebrations of arts, film, food, and culture.

Dining and relaxing are made easy with a variety of restaurants, hotels, and getaways.

Reader's Digest suggests the luxury hotel Delamar Greenwich Harbor, where guests can stay on the water, visit a spa, and dine at an on-site French restaurant.
